But to complete all these installations, we have to enter inside the server of Digital Ocean. To complete all these installations by going inside Digital Ocean’s server, we have to use the Putty emulator. Now follow the steps given below.
- Be the first to create an account in Digital Ocean
- Install Putty Emulator in your computer
- Generate SSH key with the help of puttygen
- Copy SSH Key and go to Digital Ocean account and add it under Security.

1. Create an account with Digital Ocean
After creating an account in Digita Ocean you have 2 options. With which you can maintain your server and handle it and go to the server and optimize the site.
(a) Without Using SSH Key
(b) Using SSH Key
Without Using SSH Key :
If you create Droplet directly after creating the account of Digital Ocean, then at that time you will not have any SSH Key. In such a case, Digital Ocean will send the password to your email address, so that you can enter the server using the console of digital ocean.
Using SSH Key:
When you want to use SSH Key, you have to generate SSH Key before creating Droplet in it and add it by going to Security in Digital Ocean account. After this, when you create a droplet, then you will be able to select that SSH Key.
2. Install Install Putty Emulator on your computer
When you have created an account in Digital Ocean, after that if you have decided that you will use SSH Key, then you will have to install PUTTY in your system. You can install PUTTY from here.

Here you have to click on Simply Generate. After this, you have to keep moving the mouse inside the blank space which I have created in the red circle. You can move the mouse round or left-right. You have to move until the green label is full.
Now you have to select according to the option shown in the screenshot below. First of all, you have to set 2 options here in Parameters which will already be set by default. However, if something changes by mistake, you can follow from here.
- RSA has to be selected in Type of key to generate .
- Number of bits in a generated Key में 2048 रखे.
- Now click on the Save Private key .
After clicking on the Save private key, the next dialog box will open, in which you write anything in the file name. Like I put securekey.ppk. After this, save in .ppk format only.
- File name Write down here whatever name you want to serve SSH Key.
- After this, select Putty private key files i.e. * .ppk format
- Now finally click on Save .
Now you have successfully generated SSH Key. In this way, you can use SSH Key to access your server.

Now you have generated SSH Key to access your server. But before creating a server, you should add these secure keys by opening your Digital Ocean account. Secure Socket Shell key secures our account. And it prevents and protects from having unauthorized access to our account.
Follow the procedure below to add SSH key.

From the screenshot shown above, you can easily understand that the key we have generated from puttygen is copying and pasting it under Digital Ocean’s Setting – Security – Add SSH key .
- Paste the key copied from puttygen
- Enter Key Name at Your Own Will
- Click on Add SSH Key
Congratulations You have successfully added SSH Key to your Digital Ocean account. Now you can secure your server with SSH Key. Now you are ready to create droplet.
5. Use the generated SSH Key between creating Droplet Server
How to create a Droplet in Digital Ocean, I have told it in the last post. From here you can read how to create Droplet in Digital Ocean. When you create Droplet, you get the option of Add SSH Key in the same. There you have to tick in front of the name of the added SSH key.
Add SSH Key option is in the middle of creating Droplet.
In the first screenshot shown above, Droplet creates its interface and in the second screenshot there is an option under the same interface from where you can select SSH Key. Here I have already added the Total 3 SSH Key to use. If you want, you can add a new key from here also. I have selected the key which is ticked for the droplet and I am not using the rest which have been round with red color.
All you have to keep in mind is that the SSH Key you select here will be loaded in Putty and login to the Droplet server and connect. In this way, apart from the droplet, you have also created SSH Key. Now you have to put Putty in the server by doing it.
6. Now connect to Droplet Server using Putty through Server IP address and SSH Key
So far you have done all the work step by step, then you can login to the server using Putty. We will configure Putty here to enter the Droplet server which is very easy.
Configuration of Putty :
- Add IP address of Droplet Server
When you open Putty, the first box will remain open. In this, within the session you will see a box named Host Name and IP Address Name. In that you have to add the IP address of Droplet server.
- Data Username to add on Login and click the (Default User: Root)
After adding the IP address, go to the donor and add the username. By the way, even if you don’t add it, the console will open and you will have to put it there again.
Default username root
Here you can login by writing root.
- Open ssh
- Click on auth
- Browse and select your SSH Key * .ppk.
First you go to SSH and then click on Auth , then you will get the option to browse to select the * .ppk file of your SSH Key . If you click in browse, your system drive will open. Select the SSH Key you had generated from puttygen and then save it here. Now click on the final open.
